A “breathtaking metamorphosis” is the best way to describe the renovation and conversion of this 40 year old oceanfront hotel in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Sponaugle Construction Services transformed the existing concrete building with a new exterior façade, extensive structural remediation, new mechanical and electrical systems, and a complete interior makeover.

Environmental concerns, such as the salt air, high humidity and the local sea turtles, were addressed in the design and construction. This attention to detail resulted in a very “Eco – Friendly” building both for the hotel guests and sea turtles, as recognized by the State of Florida.

The renovation of the 150 room, 96,000 square foot hotel was completed in just 10 months. In the process, Sponaugle Construction Services coordinated with almost a dozen private and governmental groups to bring the project to fruition. The project was the recipient of Marriott’s Conversion Excellence Award in June 2009.
