Sponaugle Construction Services recently completed this 35,000 square foot, 1,775 seat cinema complex in Downtown Williamsport, PA. The project was developed in cooperation with the City of Williamsport and is seen as a major step forward in the City's revitalization.
The theaters feature state-of-the-art audio-visual systems, delivering a memorable viewing experience. The construction, keeping pace with this technology, employed innovative cost and time saving methodologies, such as structural foam seating risers and engineered acoustical wall systems in the 9 theaters.
The exterior is constructed with smooth and split-faced concrete masonry units and decorative pre-cast concrete panels with lobby windows and doors constructed of aluminum and glass. The cinema is designed to be architecturally compatible with neighboring structures. The long facade is proportioned to reduce the massing of the wall and provide an appropriate human scale consistent with the existing storefronts that previously occupied the site.
One of the most notable features of the project was the level of cooperation between the partners, including City and County entities, the developer, design professionals, theater operator, and contractors. At every step in the development and construction process, obstacles were approached with a "can do" attitude which led to a very successful outcome.
